So many pilots and other people in the aviation world have known for years that the schedules at the airlines can be very fatiguing. I haven’t had an eight or nine hour overnight in quite a while, but it really amazed me that it was illegal for the airline to schedule this. By the time a airline pilot gets to the hotel, eats food, relaxes a little, it only allows for about five hours of sleep. There is probably so much information out there to prove that anything less than seven or eight hour sleep is not enough. To get this amount of sleep airline pilots need to be behind the door for 10 hours. There is so much that has gone on over the years that is obviously in the best interest of the airlines bottom line and not safety.

I went the airline route and once I had a good seniority number after quite a few years, I did feel like I had to continue in that pilot career route. I had always considered the corporate pilot route, but it would be hard to change jobs now. I like being an airline pilot, but it has its ups and downs like all pilot jobs.

Good luck if you decide to pursue a airline pilot career. It is a lot of fun and it is very satisfying to fly an airplane. Some of the most fun I’ve had was learning to fly. If you have decided to attend an aviation college you are very aware of the expense and investment into your future this requires.

If your dream is to become an airline pilot, go for it. But know the facts about the airline industry and what it is to be an airline pilot. This site and many others provide a lot of good information about what it is like to be an airline pilot.

The airline pilot career is not as rosy as all new pilots think it is. There are a lot of pitfalls and knowing the facts will better prepare you for the future.

iam a private pilot holder and really agree with wih what you just said. i only have about 80 hours of flying i have been through alot in flying though i have no kids yet i would not really advice them in to flying but its there choice if the will insist.
